DOE’s Clean Cities Program Celebrates 30 Years of Alternative Fuel Solutions! Event Description: Our biggest day of the year is just around the corner! The Pittsburgh Region Clean Cities (PRCC) Coalition warmly invites you to save the date for our annual Odyssey Day Celebration! This year we will be honoring the 30th Anniversary of the Department of Energy’s Clean Cities Program. Please join us! Odyssey Day provides a full day of interactive and experiential educational activities dedicated to promoting the use of alternative fuels and advanced technology vehicles. The annual gathering was first coordinated by the National Alternative Fuels Training Consortium (NAFTC) headquartered at West Virginia University in Morgantown, West Virginia, in partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) in 2002. PRCC hosts Odyssey Day every Fall at the Community College of Allegheny County’s (CCAC’s) West Hills Center. The day features presentations and unique activities designed to educate the public about cleaner transportation technologies while highlighting the unique features of CCAC’s facilities. Participants explore sustainable, climate-friendly transportation solutions while learning about the many collaborative opportunities available throughout the Western PA region.Example activities include:• workshops• demonstrations• clean, alternative fuel vehicle displays• ride-and-drives and more! PennDOT will begin accepting applications for Round 1 of the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Grant Program on February 24, 2023. The application period is open until 5:00 PM EST on April 6, 2023. Funds for the PA NEVI grant program are to be awarded on a competitive basis to plan, design, construct, operate, and maintain EV Station Infrastructure sites across Pennsylvania. The PA NEVI grant program includes multiple rounds of funding. During Round 1, the focus will be on building out the Alternative Fuels Corridor (AFC) network along the interstates to meet the NEVI requirements. PennDOT has created an interactive map identifying existing AFC-qualifying stations and has grouped interchanges based on priority through a gap analysis. An outline of the scoring criteria is also included listed in order of priority. In addition, PennDOT’s Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) includes instructions and information on the grant program, eligibility, scoring criteria, submission process and instructions. All applications must be submitted electronically through PA Department of Community and Economic Development’s eGrant’s system at https://www.esa.dced.state.pa.us/Login.aspx by 5:00 PM EST on April 6, 2023. Charles Cross is the former President of United Oil Company, a specialty industrial lubricants manufacturer founded in 1906 with products specially designed to assist customers with increasing productivity, reducing costs, improving safety and being environmentally friendly. In 2005, Mr. Cross led United Oil to become the first commercial biodiesel manufacturer in Pennsylvania. Mr. Cross also founded Shepherd Computer Services, a computer hardware design and manufacturing company in 1986. Additionally, he is a prior president of PRCC’s board of directors. He holds a bachelor of science degree in business administration and finance from Denver University and a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from Widener University. Charles Cross David Dernar, C.P.A, is the operating manager of Dernar & Associates, LLC, a public accounting firm located in Murrysville, Pa. Licensed in both Pennsylvania and Georgia, Mr. Dernar has been practicing public accounting, with a concentration in auditing, since 1968. He is a member of the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants’ state education committee and is also a past chairperson. Mr. Dernar sits on the executive board of the Regional Development Funding Corporation and the Murrysville Economic Community Development Corporation. He is also the president of EMS Southwest, Inc., an ambulance service located in Waynesburg, Pa., as well as the operating manager of Dependable Ambulance Billing, LLC, located in Murrysville, Pa.
